Dr. Sharma is an alumnus of prestigious and reputed Seth G.S.Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai from where he has pursued his MBBS, MS in General Surgery, and MCh in Neurosurgery.
Dr. Sharma has worked with LTMG Hospoital & LTM Medical College as Professor of neurology and Associate Professor. Dr. Sharma has worked on some key projects during his stint with LTMG Hospital. It includes
- Vision 2000- A program through which major infrastructural improvements have been undertaken through private funding.
- Multi-storey OPD/Mutliorgan transplant building project: Dr. Sharma was the coordinator of new 6 floor building project and was responsible for the conceptualization, detailed planning and implementation of the project.
- The EMS Project: Dr. Sharma was responsible for the conceptualization, creation, and organization of a large donation (Rs. 3.5 Crores) for the construction of the Emergency Medical services center of the hospital which is the finest such center in the country.
- In charge of “Information Technology & Computerization” at LTMG Hospital from 1997-2002- He was part of the computer committee of the hospital which looked after all aspects of computerization (current as well as future up-gradation) within the hospital.
- He was responsible for designing and setting up the Hospital critical care network of the LTMG hospital which was the first in a public hospital in Western India. Dr. Sharma spent over one year with the software people in the actual designing of the specialized software to meet the special needs of hospital
- “Systems administrator” of the hospital computer network (1997-2002)
- Designed / content development of the original LTMG hospital website in 1997
- Making of a movie on the evolution of LTMG hospital on occasion of the Hospitals Golden Jubilee.
- Spent a week as Team leader of the medical team of the LTMG hospital doing medical relief work in Bhuj after the earthquake in January 2001. Set up medical camp almost at the geographic epicenter of the earthquake and treated hundreds of patients.
Dr. Sharma was the Coordinator of the Committee of Medical Teachers set up by the Municipal Corporation to introduce the new scheme of permitting existing full time medical teachers to have the option to do private practice. He was appointed by the Municipal Commissioner to draft and frame the rules and regulations and obtain all the sanctions for the same in 2004. He was also in charge of the Computer upgradation program of all 4 teaching medical college and dental college hospitals run by the municipal corporation in 2003-04.
Dr. Sharma was a part of managing committee of the Paraplegic Foundation which is Mumbai’s only dedicated rehabilitation center for paraplegic patients. He has been Convener and in charge of the Half way Home Ward of the Paraplegic Foundation. He started a “Neurorehabilitation clinic” – a multidisciplinary clinic for patients of head injury which was the second of its kind in the country.
Dr. Sharma was coordinator and faculty member of three 15 day workshops called “Ayushdan”- a training program for policeman on “On the site management of victims of vehicular accidents”. He has been actively involved in disaster management for the city. He has coordinated the onsite medical & hospital management of many city disasters including the Ghatkoper bus blast, Mulund train blast and the multiple local train bomb blasts. Dr. Sharma played a pivotal role in setting up of a museum called “Janus’ where all the significant events from the history of the KEM Hospital are exhibited. Besides, Dr. Sharma has done one year course in Homeopathy which included study of holistic medicine and the integration of complimentary medical systems such as yoga, homeopathy, acupuncture, ayurveda, natural therapy etc with mainstream medicine.
